[Pharaoh] said to the eminent ones around him, "Indeed, this is a learned magician. 34 "His plan is to get you out of your land by his sorcery; then what is it ye counsel?" 35 They said: put off him and his brother, and send unto the cities callers. 36 to bring every knowledgeable sorcerer' 37 So the magicians were brought together on a particular day at a set time 38 The people were asked, 'Will you assemble? 39 We may perhaps follow the religion of the magicians if they triumph." 40 When the magicians arrived, they said to the Pharaoh: "Is there a reward for us if we are victorious?" -- 41 He said: yea; and ye shall verily then be of those brought nigh. 42 Moses said to them, 'Cast you down what you will cast.' 43 So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said, "By the might of Pharaoh, indeed it is we who are predominant." 44 Then Moses threw down his staff, and lo, it swallowed up their conjurations. 45 The magicians fell down in adoration 46 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 47 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 48 [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said: "You have believed in him before I give you leave. Surely, he indeed is your chief, who has taught you magic! So verily, you shall come to know. Verily, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you all." 49 They said: no harm! verily unto our Lord we are to return. 50 We hope that our Lord will forgive us for our sins; we were not believers at first." 51
