[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 when their brother Salih said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
