In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 (a half of it, or diminish a little, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. 9 Bear with patience what they say, and gracefully come away from them. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 and Pharaoh rebelled against the apostle, whereupon We took him to task with a crushing grip. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
