The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and a few from later times. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
