Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 surely it is one of the greatest things 35 A warning for people -- 36 To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by commiting sins), 37 Every soul is pledged to what it does, 38 except the Companions of the Right. 39 who in their gardens will be enquiring 40 About the criminals, 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 and neither did we feed the needy; 44 And we have been wading with the waders. 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 The intercession of the intercessors shall then be of no avail to them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 running away from a lion? 51 Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. 52 Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter. 53 There is no doubt that the Quran is a guide. 54 so whoever wills shall remember it. 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
