Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
