When the Messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 he said, "You are strangers [to me]." 62 They said: "Yea, we have come to thee to accomplish that of which they doubt. 63 "We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth. 64 so leave with your family some time in the latter part of the night, and walk behind them. Let none of you look back. Go where you are commanded." 65 And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 He said: "These are my guests, so do not disgrace me. 68 And fear Allah and do not disgrace me." 69 They said: "Did we not forbid thee (to speak) for all and sundry?" 70 He said: These are my daughters, if you will do (aught). 71 By thy life (O Muhammad) they moved blindly in the frenzy of approaching death. 72 So As-Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.) overtook them at the time of sunrise; 73 And We turned the township upside down and rained upon them stones of heated clay. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 This (city) lies on a road that still survives. 76 Indeed there is a portent in this for those who believe. 77 The dwellers of the Wood (near Midian) were also wicked. 78 So We chastised them. The desolate locations of both communities lie on a well-known highway. 79
