A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
