He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
