The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And rejects the best, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
