And they ask you about Dhul-Qarnain. Say: "I shall recite to you something of his story." 83 Surely We established him in the land and granted him means of access to every thing. 84 and he followed a way 85 Until when he reached the place where the sun set, he found it going down into a black sea, and found by it a people. We said: O Zulqarnain! either give them a chastisement or do them a benefit. 86 He said: As for him who doeth wrong, we shall punish him, and then he will be brought back unto his Lord, Who will punish him with awful punishment! 87 But as for one who believes and does righteousness, he will have a reward of Paradise, and we will speak to him from our command with ease." 88 And once again he chose the right means [to achieve a right end]. 89 To the extent that when he reached the rising-place of the sun, he found it rising upon a nation for which We had not kept any shelter from it. 90 thus [We had made them, and thus he left them; and We did encompass with Our knowledge all that he had in mind 91 Then he followed a way 92 Till, when he came between the two mountains, he found upon their hither side a folk that scarce could understand a saying. 93 They said, "Dhu 'l-Qarnayn, Gog and Magog are ravaging this land. Would you establish a barrier between us and them if we pay you a certain tax?" 94 He said: That in which my Lord has established me is better, therefore you only help me with workers, I will make a fortified barrier between you and them; 95 Bring me lumps of iron. Then when he had evened up between the two mountain-sides, he said: blow! Then when he had made it fire, he said: bring me and I shall pour thereon molten copper. 96 So they were not able to scale it nor could they make a hole in it. 97 Dhu l-Qarnayn said, "This barrier is a blessing from my Lord but when His promise comes to pass He will level it to the ground; His promise always comes true." 98 ۞ AND ON that Day" We shall [call forth all mankind and] leave them to surge like waves [that dash] against one another; and the trumpet [of judgment] will be blown, and We shall gather them all together. 99 We will fully expose the view of hell on that Day to the disbelievers, 100 whose eyes were covered against My remembrance, and they were not able to hear. 101
