Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
