The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
