He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he feareth 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
