The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 Yet if they see a sign they turn away, and they say 'A continuous sorcery!' 2 They deny the truth and follow their own whims, every matter has its appointed time, 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 So turn (your) back on them (for) the day when the inviter shall invite them to a hard task, 6 They will come forth,- their eyes humbled - from (their) graves, (torpid) like locusts scattered abroad, 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 Thereupon he called out to his Sustainer, "Verily, I am defeated; come Thou, then, to my succour!" 10 We opened the gates of the sky and water started to pour down. 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs. So the waters (of the heaven and the earth) met for a matter predestined. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 running before Our eyes-a recompense for him denied. 14 And We left the Ark as a Sign. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 We sent a raging wind against them on a day of continuous calamity. 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
