▼ 74 The Hidden Secret
Al-Muddath-thir 2 of 2
By no means! By the moon, 32 By the night when it withdraweth. 33 And the dawn when it shineth forth, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 A warning to mortals, 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, 40 About the criminals, 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer, 43 and we did not feed the poor; 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 till the Certain came to us.' -- 47 So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 As they were frightened asses 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder 54 So whosoever will (let him read it), and receive admonition (from it)! 55 But they will not benefit from it unless Allah Himself so wills. He is worthy to be feared; and He is worthy to forgive (those that fear Him). 56

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
