The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 Pollution shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And children present [with him] 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
