Now, behold, this [divine writ] has indeed been bestowed from on high by the Sustainer of all the worlds: 192 The Trusted Spirit hath brought it down. 193 Upon thy heart, that thou mayst be (one) of the warners, 194 In plain Arabic language. 195 Without doubt it is (announced) in the mystic Books of former peoples. 196 Is it not a sign to them that the learned scholars (like 'Abdullah bin Salam who embraced Islam) of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)? 197 Had We revealed it to any of the non-Arabs, 198 In order that he read it to them, even then they would not have believed in it. 199 In this wise have We made way for it into the hearts of the culprits. 200 they will not believe in it until they see the grievous punishment. 201 But when it comes upon them suddenly, taking them unawares, 202 and then they will exclaim, "Could we have a respite?" 203 Would they then wish for Our Torment to be hastened on? 204 Have you then considered if We let them enjoy themselves for years, 205 Yet there comes to them at length the (Punishment) which they were promised! 206 So of what benefit will be the comforts that they were using? 207 And never did We destroy a township, but it had its warners 208 As a reminder; and never have We been unjust. 209 It was not the devils who brought down the Quran: 210 They are unworthy of it, nor can they do it. 211 indeed they are debarred from overhearing it. 212 So call on no other god but God, lest you are condemned to torment; 213 Warn your tribe and your near kinsmen. 214 and be kind to your believing followers. 215 If they disobey you, say: 'I am quit of what you do' 216 Have trust in the Mighty, the Merciful, 217 who can see whether you stand up 218 and [sees] thy behaviour among those who prostrate themselves [before Him]: 219 He is All-hearing and All-knowing." 220 Shall I tell you on whom the satans descend? 221 They descend on every great accuser, extreme sinner. (The magicians) 222 They listen eagerly, but most of them are liars. 223 As for poets, the erring follow them. 224 Have you not seen them wandering and bewildered in every valley 225 and preaching what they themselves never practice. 226 The righteously striving believers among them who remember God very often and use their talent to seek help after they have been wronged are the exceptional. The unjust will soon know how terrible their end will be. 227
