He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fearfully, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 fruits, and grass. 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
