Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 in a Garden on high, 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 and outspread carpets. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
