He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
