And We certainly saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating torment - 30 They (had experienced) under the Pharaoh. He was certainly a tyrant, guilty of excess. 31 We gave preference to the Israelites over the other people with Our knowledge 32 and bestowed upon them the Signs wherein lay an evident test for them. 33 Verily these! they say: 34 "That [which is ahead of us] is but our first [and only] death, and we shall not be raised to life again. 35 Bring back to life our fathers if what you say is true". 36 Are they better, or the folk of Tubb'a and those before them? We destroyed them, for surely they were guilty. 37 It was not in idle sport that We created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them. 38 We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not. 39 Verily the Day of sorting out is the time appointed for all of them,- 40 the Day when a friend shall be of no avail to his friend nor shall they be helped, 41 except for those to whom God grants mercy. He is Majestic and All-merciful. 42
