The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 And the Scripture inscribed 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 and the uplifted roof 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Then is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". 28
