(Muhammad), remind them, by the Grace of your Lord, that you are neither a soothsayer or an insane person. 29 Or do they say, 'He is a poet for whom we await Fate's uncertainty'? 30 Proclaim, “Go on waiting – I too am waiting along with you.” 31 Do their minds command them to do this, or are they an outrageous folk? 32 Or say they: He hath invented it? Nay, but they will not believe! 33 Let them produce a scripture like it, if what they say is true. 34 Have they been created from nothing or are they themselves their own creators? 35 Or is it they who created the heavens and the earth? No; the truth is that they lack sure faith. 36 Or are with them the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the tyrants with the authority to do as they like? 37 Do they have a ladder (by which they can climb up to the heavens) and listen (to the angels) and come back to the rest of the people with clear authority? 38 Do the daughters belong to Him and the sons to you? 39 Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down? 40 Or, is the Unseen in their keeping, so they are writing it down? 41 Or do they intend a plan? But those who disbelieve - they are the object of a plan. 42 Or, do they have a god, other than Allah? Exaltations to Allah above that which they associate! 43 And if they were to see a fragment from the sky falling, they would say, "[It is merely] clouds heaped up." 44 So leave them until they meet their Day in which they will be struck insensible - 45 the Day when none of their scheming will be of the least avail to them, and they will receive no succour. 46 And verily, for those who do wrong, there is another punishment (i.e. the torment in this world and in their graves) before this, but most of them know not. And exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord when you arise. 48 and glorify Him after the setting of the stars. 49
