The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
