The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then looked he, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 Burning the skins! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
