He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
