The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Hour of Resurrection drew near and the moon split asunder. 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 And deny, and follow their own vain desires; but every matter is determined at its time. 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 narratives that are full of consummate wisdom. But warnings do not avail them. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 Hastening towards the caller, the disbelievers will say: "This is a hard Day." 8 ۞ (Long) before them the nation of Noah belied. They belied Our worshiper saying: 'Mad' and he was reprimanded. 9 Noah prayed, "Lord, help me; I am defeated". 10 So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. 11 and caused the earth to gush with springs, so that the waters met for a predestined matter. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 And We left it for a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune, 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
