The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And shade extended 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
