He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and purified. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
