The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has been cleft asunder (the people of Makkah requested Prophet Muhammad SAW to show them a miracle, so he showed them the splitting of the moon). 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 The pinnacle of wisdom – so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? 5 (Muhammad), leave them alone. On the day when they will be called to a terrible punishment, 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember? 15 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 'Ad also gave the lie (to Hud). So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 plucking up men as if they were stumps of uprooted palm-trees. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
