The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe to those who give short measure, 1 those who, when they take from others by measure, take their full share; 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Think they not that they will be resurrected (for reckoning), 4 on a fateful Day. 5 The day on which men shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Indeed, the record of the disbelievers is in the lowest place, the Sijjeen. 7 and what could make you understand what the Sijjin is? -- 8 it is a written record. 9 Woe on that Day unto the beliers 10 Those who deny the Day of Judgment 11 No one denies it except for the evil aggressor. 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says: 'Fictitious tales of the ancients' 13 They will never have faith. In fact, their hearts are stained from their deeds. 14 Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. 15 Then indeed they have to enter hell. 16 Then it will be said: 'this is that which ye were wont to belie.' 17 NAY, VERILY - the record of the truly virtuous is [set down] in a mode most lofty! 18 Ah, what will convey unto thee what 'Illiyin is! - 19 It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed 20 To which bear witness those Nearest (to Allah). 21 Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure 22 On adorned couches, observing. 23 You can trace on their faces the joy of their bliss. 24 They will be given pure wine to drink, which is kept preserved, sealed. 25 whose seal is musk -- so after that let the strivers strive -- 26 With the wine is a drink from Tasnim, 27 a spring at which those drawn close to God will drink. 28 The sinners indeed laughed at believers 29 And when they passed by them, they winked at one another. 30 And when they returned to their own followers they returned exulting. 31 and whenever they see those [who believe,] they say: "Behold, these [people] have indeed gone astray!" 32 Yet they were not sent to be their guardians. 33 So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers; 34 as they sit on couches, gazing around. 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
