The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sky, and by the nightly comer! 1 and what could make you know what it is that comes in the night? 2 The star of piercing brightness; 3 There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels incharge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.) 4 So let man consider from what he is created. 5 He was created from a fluid, ejected, 6 issuing from between the backbone and the breastbone: 7 God has all power to resurrect him. 8 on the Day when consciences are examined, 9 when he will be helpless, with no supporter. 10 So I call to witness the rain-producing sky, 11 and the earth, bursting forth with plants! 12 Lo! this (Qur'an) is a conclusive word, 13 And is not a matter of amusement. 14 Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad) 15 and I am devising guile. 16 So respite the unbelievers; delay with them awhile. 17
