The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
