And recite to them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me, 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss. 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 “And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised.” 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 By Allah, we were truly in a manifest error, 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 And none has brought us into error except the Mujrimun [Iblis (Satan) and those of human beings who commit crimes, murderers, polytheists, oppressors, etc.]. 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Verily in this is a Sign but most of them do not believe. 103 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 104
