The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 By the House Frequented. 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a horrible, forceful pushing. 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. 16 Verily the God-fearing will be in Gardens and Delight. 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
