The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 it will be a hard day 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Blackening the skins. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
