We created man -- We know the promptings of his soul, and are closer to him than his jugular vein -- 16 [And so,] whenever the two demands [of his nature] come face to face, contending from the right and from the left, 17 He utters not a word, but there is a vigilant watcher at hand. 18 And the stupor of death will bring Truth (before his eyes): "This was the thing which thou wast trying to escape!" 19 And the Trumpet shall be blown; that is the Day of the Threat. 20 And there will come forth every soul: with each will be an (angel) to drive, and an (angel) to bear witness. 21 Assuredly thou wast in neglect thereof; now We have removed from off thee thy veil, so thy sight Today is piercing. 22 His companion attendant will say, "I have here his record ready." 23 "Cast into Hell every ungrateful, rebellious one, 24 "Who forbade what was good, transgressed all bounds, cast doubts and suspicions; 25 “The one who appointed another God along with Allah – so both of you fling him into the severe punishment.” 26 ۞ His companion said: “I did not incite him to rebel; he was far gone into error of his own accord.” 27 Allah will say: wrangle not in My presence, and I had already proferred unto you the threat. 28 My word shall not be changed, nor am I in the least unjust to the servants. 29
