Thamud gave the lie to the warnings, 23 For they said; Is it a mortal man, alone among us, that we are to follow? Then indeed we should fall into error and madness. 24 Out of all of us has the Reminder been given to him alone? Rather, he is indeed an arrogant liar' 25 They shall know tomorrow whichsoever is a liar insolent. 26 Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient. 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them, each drink for each in turn. 28 They called together their companions and agreed to slay the she-camel. 29 Ah! how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 30 Then We sent a single blast against them and they became like dry stubble which has been trampled upon. 31 We made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would take heed? 32 The people of Lot denied the warning. 33 We let loose on all of them a squall of claystones, except for the house of Lot whom We saved at dawn 34 As a favour from Us. That is how We reward the grateful. 35 And certainly he warned them of Our violent seizure, but they obstinately disputed the warning. 36 Even his guests they had solicited of him; so We obliterated their eyes, saying, 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!' 37 and early in the morning the punishment decreed overtook them -- 38 So have a taste of My chastisement and My warnings. 39 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 40
