The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Who will be honoured 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and spreading shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
