۞ But We shall say, "Assemble those who did wrong together with their associates and what they worshipped 22 besides God, and lead them to the path of the Fire; 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 27 They will say: "It was you who used to come to us from the right side [i.e. from the right side of one of us and beautify for us every evil, order us for polytheism, and stop us from the truth i.e. Islamic Monotheism and from every good deed]." 28 But they reply: 'Rather, you were not believers. 29 We had no authority over you, but you were an insolent nation. 30 So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 So, they will become partners in punishment. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Whenever it was said to them: “There is no true deity apart from Allah,” they waxed proud 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment, 38 but you shall not be recompensed except for what you were doing. 39 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 40 For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise). 41 fruits -- and they high-honoured 42 in gardens of bliss, 43 On thrones, facing each other. 44 There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring, 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 And with them shall be those who restrain the eyes, having beautiful eyes; 48 As if they were eggs carefully protected. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 Said one of the speakers: "I had a friend 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 He will look down and see him in hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 except for our first death, and are we not chastised? 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 for which one must strive hard. 61 Is this better or the tree of Zaqqum 62 Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, wrong-doers, etc.). 63 It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils); 65 The dwellers of hell will eat that fruit and fill-up their bellies. 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 They can only return to hell. 68 They indeed found their fathers astray, 69 yet they run in their footsteps, 70 And indeed before them, most of the former people went astray. 71 And verily We sent among them warners. 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 except for the chosen servants of Allah? 74
