In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 The heaven shall rend asunder thereby; His promise is ever brought to fulfillment. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
