The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there not been over man a period of time, when he was nothing to be mentioned? 1 Verily We created man from a sperm yoked (to the ovum) to bring out his real substance, then gave him hearing and sight. 2 We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth We have readied chains and shackles, and a blazing flame 4 Indeed, the righteous will drink from a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of Kafur, 5 a fountain at which the worshipers of Allah drink and make it gush forth abundantly; 6 (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading, 7 They feed the destitute, orphans, and captives for the love of God, saying, 8 (Saying): "We feed you seeking Allah's Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you. 9 We fear the dismal day calamitous from our Lord." 10 So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, 11 And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk. 12 Reclining upon couches, they will find therein neither the heat of the sun nor bitter, biting cold, 13 And close down upon them (shall be) its shadows, and its fruits shall be made near (to them), being easy to reach. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver, and goblets of crystal, 15 (Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds). 16 And they shall be made to drink therein a cup the admixture of which shall be ginger, 17 From a fountain therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall surround them, waiting upon them; when you see them, you would think they are scattered pearls. 19 wherever you look, you will see bliss and a great kingdom: 20 On their bodies will be garments of the finest green silk and brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give them a purest draught to drink. 21 Behold, this is your recompense and your endeavour has been appreciated. 22
