The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ NEAR HAS COME the reckoning for men, but they turn away in remissness. 1 There comes not to them a new reminder from their Lord but they hear it while they sport, 2 their hearts are distracted and forgetful. The wrongdoers confer together secretly, saying, "Is not this man a mortal like you? Will you succumb to magic with your eyes open?" 3 The Lord said, "Tell them (Muhammad), 'My Lord knows all that is said in the heavens and the earth. He is All-hearing and All-knowing ". 4 "Nay," they say: "[Muhammad propounds] the most involved and confusing of dreams!" "Nay, but he has invented [all] this!" - "Nay, but he is [only] a poet!" - [and,] "Let him, then, come unto us with a miracle, just as those [prophets] of old were sent [with miracles]?" 5 Not a city before them which We destroyed believed; will they then believe? 6 The messengers We sent before you were but men whom We had sent revelations. Ask the People of the Book if you do not know this -- 7 Nor did We give them bodies that ate no food, nor were they exempt from death. 8 In the end, We made good unto them Our promise, and We saved them and all whom We willed [to save,] and We destroyed those who had wasted their own selves. 9 We have sent a Book, (the Quran), which is an honor for you. Will you then not understand? 10
