The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
