The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
