The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And your clothing purify 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 He looked (at others); 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
