The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 leave them to eat, and to take their joy, and to be bemused by hope; certainly they will soon know! 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 They say: 'You to whom the Remembrance is sent down, you are indeed mad. 6 Why dost thou not bring the angels unto us, if thou speakest truly?' 7 We do not send down angels except for a genuine purpose, at which time none will be given any further respite. 8 Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption). 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 They would surely say: "Our eyes have been (as if) dazzled. Nay, we are a people bewitched." 15
