And this (Qur'an) is a revelation from the Lord of all the worlds, 192 Which the trusted spirit descended with 193 upon thy heart, that thou mayest be one of the warners, 194 in the clear Arabic tongue. 195 Truly it is in the Scriptures of the ancients. 196 Was it not a sign for them, that it is known to the learned of the Children of Israel? 197 And if We had revealed it (this Quran) unto any of the non-Arabs, 198 And he had recited it to them [perfectly], they would [still] not have been believers in it. 199 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty. 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment. 201 It shall come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not; 202 Then they will exclaim, "Could we have some respite?" 203 Do they wish Us then to hasten the punishment? 204 Therefore observe, that if We give them some comforts for some years, – 205 then there comes on them that they were promised, 206 (How) that wherewith they were contented naught availeth them? 207 And We destroyed not a city but it had its warners. 208 To warn. For We are never unjust. 209 The devils did not bring it down: 210 they are not supposed to do so. Nor do have they the ability for such a task. 211 They have been precluded from hearing it. 212 Therefore do not worship another deity along with Allah, for you will be punished. 213 And admonish thy nearest kinsmen, 214 and spread the wings of thy tenderness over all of the believers who may follow thee; 215 If they disobey you, say, "I bear no responsibility for what you do." 216 And put your trust in Him Who is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate, 217 Who seeth thee standing forth (in prayer), 218 And thy movements among those who fall prostrate. 219 He is all-hearing and all-knowing. 220 Shall I tell you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They descend on every sinful, false one. 222 who readily lend ear [to every falsehood,] and most of whom lie to others as well. 223 Poets are followed by the perverse. 224 Do you not see how they wander aimlessly in every valley, 225 and say things which they do not act upon, 226 Except those who believe and do good and remember Allah much, and defend themselves after they are oppressed; and they who act unjustly shall know to what final place of turning they shall turn back. 227
