'Aad denied the messengers 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 "And Gardens and Springs. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
